How to Choose the Best Deck Builder in Raleigh NC

It’s winter, so probably the last thing on your mind is getting a new deck built at your Raleigh NC home. But we here at Paradise Decking think it’s never too early to start planning the deck of your dreams! We are a trusted and reputable deck builder. Raleigh NC is the perfect spot to enjoy the great outdoors, thanks to our excellent year-round weather. Even during the coldest months, the average temperature doesn’t drop below 50 degrees. (Just think about those poor folks up north who have to deal with temperatures that drop below 0 degrees!)

Do you already have your dream deck in mind? Do you already know what you want and what kind of materials you want it built out of? Or do you have a general idea and need a good deck builder to help you figure out the specifics? Here are a few suggestions on how to choose the best deck builder in Raleigh NC. Of course, you can always call Paradise Decking when you’re ready to start building, and then you don’t have to worry because we’re one of the best in the Raleigh NC area, hands down!

First of all, start thinking about your budget and how much you are willing to spend on hiring a Raleigh NC deck builder. Keep in mind that, like most things in life, you get what you pay for. So don’t always go with the deck builder who gives you the lowest bid. A good deck builder will use high-quality materials, so that bid might be higher than a few others. Paradise Decking always uses the best materials so our customers can enjoy their decks for years to come.

Be sure to ask for references or a portfolio so you can see what other work the deck builder has done in the Raleigh NC area. Check out the construction quality, what the finished product looked like and how well the space was utilized. Speak to some former customers to make sure they were happy with the deck builder and the end result. Paradise Decking has several galleries online, so you can check these out any time you want to see the quality of work we provide our Raleigh NC customers.

When you’re ready to start building the deck of your dreams at your Raleigh NC home, just give us a call at (336) 282-3374 or contact us online for a free estimate!

Maximum Project ROI With Raleigh Deck Builder

When you add a deck to your Raleigh home, you add a beautiful, new living space and ROI to your home. It's a total win-win project. However, these benefits only come with hiring the right Raleigh deck builder. Why? Here are some reasons why you need to hire the right custom deck builder in order to get the maximum ROI out of the job:

Materials
When you factor in the entertainment and recreation a deck can provide, you're getting a new return. However, the right materials have to be chosen. Certain decking products add great value because of the durability they provide, which is important considering North Carolina's sometimes extreme weather.

Protection
It's important to protect this important investment. And one of the best ways to do so is with a patio cover. You don't need something elaborate; just something that can minimize the elements impact on your deck.

Railings/Design
Get more of out of your new deck by including a full complement of railings. You don't want to go "too" contemporary, as trends can change and do more harm than good. The thing you don't want to have happen is to have a deck that's in style now, but looks dated in a few years.

So, What's a Pergola?

The official Wikipedia definition for a pergola is "a garden feature forming a shaded walkway, passageway or sitting area of vertical posts or pillars that usually support cross-beams and a sturdy open lattice, often upon which woody vines are trained." If you're still here after that long sentence, a pergola is basically sturdier open-sided tent of sorts, usually made of wood.

Need to see a few examples? Here you go.

They're great for providing outdoor shade or protection from rain in an area, provided the roof of the pergola is covered. As stated in the Wikipedia definition, some like to train vines or other types of plants to grow on or around their pergola, which makes it feel more like a part of nature than a man-made structure.

Paradise Decking can build pergolas, as well as decks, sunrooms, covered porches, and room additions. Give us a call today at (336) 282-3374 and ask us about receiving a FREE pergola estimate for your home.

Tips for a Great Deck Party

One of the major reasons homeowners opt for deck installations on their property is for the entertainment factor. Such an inviting outdoor space is great for gatherings like barbecues and parties, but in order to make such a gathering the best it can be, there are a few tips you'll want to keep in mind.

Make the space even more inviting. Arrange tables and chairs so that they're more likely to be used by people who are engaging in conversation. Try to keep them out of the way, though, so people don't feel crammed together.

Get your landscape into shape. Do you want to impress with your deck, only to turn people off when they see your unmaintained lawn? Mow, trim, and clean up any debris laying around the yard.

Protect your guests. Mosquitoes and other bugs can be quite the nuisance during a deck party. Be sure to keep bug spray, citronella candles, or other repellant items around for guest use.

Let tunes set the mood. Have some kind of stereo, CD, or MP3 player out on your deck to provide music. This keeps things from getting awkwardly silent, provides some party background music, and gives your guests a reason to dance.

Don't have a deck yet? Paradise Decking would love to help you build one. Give us a call today to request a FREE deck building quote. We can be reached at (336) 282-3374.

Deck Decor

Warm weather will soon be upon us, and you'll finally be able to get outside and enjoy your deck again. One thing you can start thinking about in the meantime is how you're going to decorate your deck in the new year. Will you keep the same outdoor furniture and setup, or will you try something new?

One thing we suggest doing is picking up a bunch of magazines for interior design and outdoor living spaces. Designing an outdoor living space using many of the same philosophies as designing an indoor space, and seeing other people's ideas might inspire you, and maybe even help you come up with some ideas of your own.

Chapel Hill Deck ContractorsAlso, be sure to take a drive and check out (from afar, of course) some of the decks in your neighborhood and how they're designed and laid out. Seeing them in person might be more helpful to you than looking at magazine photos.

When you've nailed down what you're going to buy and where everything will be placed, it's time to get to work! One important thing: if you're creating an outdoor dining area with a grill, be sure to place the dining table away from the grill so smoke doesn't blow into the faces of your family or your guests.

For Your Deck, Looks Are Important

When you make the decision to add a deck to your home, you probably want something that is study, high-quality, and last but not least, beautiful. Unfortunately, some deck construction companies are skilled at putting up a deck, but they're not skilled at making it look good.

That's one way Paradise Decking differs from the rest.

The two owners of Paradise Decking both hold Art degrees. They place an importance on the visual appearance of your deck that is passed over by many other builders. Your deck should not just be an addition to your home -- it should be an extension of it, and no company can pull it off like Paradise Decking.

Winter Deck Enjoyment

With the official start of Winter coming up soon, you might be lamenting the fact that you won't be able to use your deck as much. Sitting out on the deck can be quite a relaxing activity, and provides you with a way to surround yourself with the outdoors as you take in a good book, or listen to some music.

Fortunately, there is a way for you to continue enjoying your deck well into the winter months -- by building an enclosed deck. An enclosed deck can provide you with large windows, mimicking the effect of sitting outdoors while still being able to control the temperature of the space. You'll still get the look and feel of being outdoors in the warmer seasons, without the chill of actually sitting in the winter air.

Interested in adding an enclosed deck to your home? Give us a call today at 336-282-3374.

Patio Design Ideas on a Budget

There are few things that can spruce up a backyard like a unique patio design. If funds are tight, however, there’s no need to stress. Here are a few ways you can design an awesome patio on a budget:

Choose Cost-Friendly Materials
Stone is an elegant, yet expensive option. Concrete and natural stone pavers are awesome, but can set you back a pretty penny. Veneer stone and concrete blocks give the same appearance but at a fraction of the cost. The materials you choose can either make or break the bank, so pick wisely.

Streamline the Design
Where you place your backyard patio can have an effect on the cost of installing it. Dimensions and depths can change, and other factors, like slopes and other issues that require the projects adjustment, can up the project’s price. Don’t just take one look at your backyard and mark the spot your eye first goes to, especially if you’re on a budget. You don’t want to get halfway and realize you’ll need to excavate in order to get the bricks to fit right.

Plan and Assess
Before anything, however, you need to take into account all the factors for designing a patio. Think of things like the space you have available, the materials required, furniture, accessories and the list goes on. How much time will you really be spending on it, and when you’re there, what kind of activities, celebrations and events will be hosted on it? Make two lists: items you need to buy and items that can be rented. This will save you in the long run.

Additionally, you’ll need to plan and think meticulously. Financially plan for every aspect of the design by evaluating your must-have requirements with the money you have on hand. You’ll find that in order to get what you need, you might have to let go a few of your wants if they can’t be afforded. Will the patio be brand new or will it be built from an existing one?

What Our Customers Have To Say About Paradise Decking

Here’s what one Greensboro NC client had to say about Paradise Decking and the work we’ve did with their screened porch:

“It gives us great pleasure to give our full recommendation to Paradise Decking for clients who desire the highest in quality workmanship and professionalism.

“Your attention to detail could not have been accomplished by anyone else in the local market.  Thank you for working us through our concern that the "Craftsmen" style detail of our house be integrated seamlessly into the porch design.  We could not be happier with the end result.  My neighbor who happens to be a design engineer comments on your ability to integrate the porch as if it was planned by the original architect.

“Parish and I want to thank you for making this project so enjoyable.  Your crew led by project manager, Troy consistently arrived on time, kept the work area free from clutter, and conducted themselves with complete professionalism and friendliness from beginning to end.  We were reassured with their work ethic, despite numerous weather concerns/delays, come rain or shine, Troy and the crew were always prompt and ready to work.  You should be proud to run such a professional organization.

“In terms of building standards, your attention to details, ability to communicate your vision, and community reputation as a perfectionist, all led to you gaining our business.

“Please do not hesitate to have your prospective clients either call me or stop by to see the porch.  We would welcome the opportunity to convey our complete satisfaction with the work your organization has done for us.”

Decks and Sunrooms...

An Enclosed Deck or Patio Can Be Utilized Even In the Cold of Winter

The whole purpose of a deck or sunroom is to enjoy the outdoors. Winter weather is very often quite inhospitable. Extreme temperatures will force people to shut themselves up in the home. Even in southern states such as North Carolina, the temperatures will frequently plummet to below freezing. Snow, ice and tremendous wind chills help to limit any outside family activity. Sunrooms and fully enclosed decks can provide an enjoyable outside environment without the harsh outside conditions.

Simply adding a couple of posts and a few sheets of plywood to create a covered deck is not as safe or straight forward as one would think. Different regions of the country will be subject to different types of environmental conditions such as heavy snow or ice. Most jurisdictions also require inspections to approve newly constructed or remodeled decks.

Areas which will receive snow and ice will require proper support, materials and design in order to create a safe and suitable enclosed deck or sunroom. The design can be just as important as the materials used in the construction of the covered deck. Additional details needing to be focused upon are whether the walls of the enclosed deck will be constructed of brick or wood. A combination of both materials can be used.

Proper insulation and windows are other important details to consider and are often overlooked. Many builders will just focus on insulating the walls. The ceiling, as well as the floor, should be insulated in order to provide the home owner with an all year round usable space. The type of windows installed will also greatly affect how comfortable the home owner will be when using the enclosed deck or sunroom. There are several considerations. Insulated double-paned windows are available, but an additional factor to be considered is the type of framing. Aluminum clad windows will conduct hot or cold temperature better than vinyl or wood framed windows.

Many home owners may view a deck as a do-it-yourself project, but without the experience, many costly mistakes will likely be made. For this not to occur, it is recommended that the home owner select a deck builder with the required experience and knowledge. There are many methods to secure the services of a competent deck contractor. Online searches have become the most common avenue of finding a local deck builder. Those builders who do have websites will often have a small sampling of the projects which have been completed. Viewing the company's entire portfolio will also give the home owner several ideas not considered earlier.

Covered Decks & Sunrooms

An Investment Which Will Help for Entertaining & Soothe Depression

As temperatures begin to drop with the onset of fall and winter, most home owners retreat into the warmth of the home. One major problem to be aware of is the effect that becoming a seasonal recluse will create in family or friends. Cloistering ones self away will likely foment depression which has been shown to increase during the cold winter season due to lack of exposure to natural light and inactivity. One surprising solution rarely thought of is to build a new deck or remodel an existing deck.

Even the climate of southern states, such as North Carolina, will experience bitterly cold temperatures and hazard ice conditions which force people to seek shelter. The deck used during the spring and summer months will then lay unused; a virtual waste of money. Enclosing a deck or even adding a sunroom is an ideal way for the home owner to take back the freedom which Mother Nature steals every winter.

Taking an existing open deck and making some key additions will help to transform an open and useless deck into a warm and inviting deck or sunroom. Large insulated windows will still allow natural light to penetrate to the interior while preventing the bitter cold and wind from chilling the home owner to the bone. During the summer time, one only needs to open the windows to receive the breeze and fresh air. Improving a deck in this manner would not be considered a do-it-yourself project.

Careful consideration and calculations need to be exercised when designing the roof. In the majority of the country, snow and ice which will accumulate on the roof will add substantial weight. Any overhead structure needs to be properly supported in order to prevent a collapse resulting in serious injury or even death. For this reason alone it is recommended that the home owner contract with an experienced deck builder, such as Paradise Decking, with an excellent reputation.

After the enclosed deck or sunroom is completed, the home will be ready to entertain. In addition to hosting football parties on the new deck, the upcoming holidays and family get-togethers, which inevitably will coincide, will no longer create a confined and chaotic atmosphere. Even though holidays are a time for friends and family, a hospitable sunroom will allow the added square footage to provide an escape and peace and quiet for those individuals needing a break from the "festivities". The best part of an enclosed deck or sunroom is that no matter what time of year the investment will never be wasted.
